Moving heads for stage lighting

Moving heads are advanced stage lighting devices. They are widely used in various types of television programs, on music stages, in the theaters, during weddings or other events. The development of technology, especially LED technology, allows us to enjoy remarkable effects during a wide variety of events.

The most commonly used moving heads

Evolights and Light4Me moving heads are currently the most popular stage lighting. We encounter them not only at concerts, performances, galas, shows, presentations or TV shows, but also in community centers, as lighting for DJs, lighting fixtures for wedding bands, event companies, dance clubs and discos. They are also perfect for theatrical and architectural lighting, both indoor and outdoor.

Among the many types of moving heads, we can distinguish three basic types. A spot moving head creates a conical beam of light, a beam moving head a narrow and straight beam, a wash moving head floods the stage with light, and an effect head creates the perfect atmosphere and disco effects on any dance floor! Discover the best LED moving heads, IP65 rated outdoor lighting and discharge lamp based spotlights from Evolights, Light4Me and other brands.

Spot moving heads

A soloist on stage, a TV presenter or a speaker at a conference are all people whose presence is highlighted by a spot of light with a distinct shape - most often a circular shape. Spot moving heads are used to illuminate the main subject, on which almost all the audience's attention is to be focused. Depending on the model of the moving head, several colors are available, which can be mixed with each other, obtaining very interesting effects. The intensity of the light is also adjustable, so it is possible to adjust the power to suit current needs. In addition, spot moving heads are increasingly equipped with wheels:

     • gobo - allows you to display all sorts of patterns: flowers, hearts, company logos, etc.

     • rotogobo - spins around its own axis

     • effects - Gobo Shake (vibration), frost (blurring edges) and more.

There are also spot moving heads with zoom, which allow you to change the beam angle, and models with ring, which is an additional ring effect around the main light source.

Wash moving heads

Illuminating a large space with a spot of light with fuzzy edges is done with wash moving heads. Basic functions in this type of device include color change, intensity and dimming control, as well as strobe effect. Increasingly, wash moving heads have built-in macros that allow the light to adjust to the music. Also zoom, which changes the beam angle, is a solution used in many models of moving wash heads. An interesting effect that is used in some wash devices is pixel mapping - thanks to it, the operator can control each diode separately, obtaining impressive results.

Beam moving heads

High power and sharpness create a light pillar that reaches distant objects - such functionality is offered by beam moving heads, which in a sense are the opposite of wash moving heads. This is the latest type of moving heads, which can be equipped with effects and wheels, available in the previous two types of this device.

Modern moving heads combine two or even three types of heads. However, single heads are still the most popular solution, the precise selection and skillful use of which gives great possibilities, and in combination with other devices, such as PAR spotlights, allow you to achieve an effect to the measure of the best productions of studio and stage lighting.
